BMW is excited to see that their sales have been increasing. They have shown consumers that they can give them a car that is full of luxury – but also one that has the power they crave behind the wheel. That is why in 2012 they will be listed as one of the large vehicle manufacturers in the U.S.
Because of this great honor the folks at BMW are now in talks amongst themselves to decide whether or not they will produce what they call “an ecologically compatible car for the U.S. market”. They are trying to prepare for the newer and stricter CAFÉ standards that will be in full force in a couple of years.
If they decide to go ahead with these cars they will be shifting gears. BMW is well known for the engines that they use – but these new cars will be battery operated according to a statement given by Norbert Reithofer – CEO of BMW. They are also thinking about starting from scratch with the design. This isn’t confirmed yet so we may still see a battery operated M5 in a couple of years.
